About Parkend:

Parkend is a quiet forest village, situated a few miles from Lydney.

The village was once part of the forest's thriving coal mining community, but these days it is better known for the RSBP Nag's Head Nature Reserve, proving a pleasant place to while away a few peaceful hours among beautiful woodland surroundings.

Parkend is also on the route of the Dean Forest Railway, a steam heritage line taking you on a journey through some of the forest's loveliest countryside. Of the pleasant aspects of the village is its church of 1822 and a Memorial Hall built in 1919 as a tribute to those who lost their lives in World War I. There are several listed buildings including the four storey Dean Field Study Centre, now a Grade II listed building, and naturally dotted amongst the landscape are restored stone miners cottages.

Visitors can enjoy a planned village walk, or enjoy refreshments in either one of the two attractive village pubs. For anyone wishing to stay to explore the beauty of the forest, once a Royal hunting ground, the sole preserve of Princes and King's, you will find hotels, bed and breakfast and self catering accommodation.
