About Severn Beach:

From this pleasant spot it is possible to get the most marvellous views of the two impressive bridges spanning the River Severn. The beach, mainly mud and shingle, was much used in the early part of the 20th century when Robert Stride, a local entrepreneur, sought to expand what was just a tiny hamlet into a resort village. These days, it is the fact that the coastline is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest that draws the visitors, most of the early attractions have long since gone, along with the village shop and pub, with the land being used for the development of new housing. The coastline remains rich in wildlife, and apart from extensive views across the water to South Wales, visitors to the area can expect to see a fascinating range of creatures of the wild, including Peregrine Falcons and Seals.

Since the demise of the old village, the area has expanded into a "commuter" town, and the ease of its rail and road links have made it a desirable residential area.

The area is celebrated in the words and music of a song written by Adge Cutler of The Wurzels, called Aloha Severn Beach.

From Severn Beach there is easy access to Avonmouth, Bristol and Bath. The old bridge and the elegant new suspension bridge carry vehicles to Chepstow and to Newport.
