About
Meningitis UK: Meningitis UK was established
in 1999 to fund a £500,000 state-of-the-art
dedicated meningitis research laboratory in the
University of Bristol's School of Medical
Sciences.
The charity's
Chief Executive, Steve Dayman, tragically lost
his 14-month old son Spencer to meningitis and
meningococcal septicaemia in 1982. Steve has
since dedicated his life to the meningitis
cause, working tirelessly to raise funds to find
a vaccine which could change the fate of others
who might otherwise find themselves in the same
terrible position.
The
Spencer Dayman Meningitis
Laboratories - named in memory of
Spencer - were officially opened in
April 2002, and now house a two and
a half million pound investment into
meningitis research. After the
successful completion of this
project, the charity adopted the
working name of Meningitis UK and
decided to focus solely on the
development of vaccines to protect
against all forms of meningitis.
Since this time, Meningitis UK has
invested over £2million into
meningitis research across the UK
and is now the leading charity
solely focussed on supporting
research into the development of
meningitis vaccines in the UK.
More Information
About The Music: 'Mark Hopkins' composed
a few tracks in the 90s when he was living in
the Middle East but only semi recorded some of
the tracks. Not long after this he left to work
/ live in Asia for 15 years and during this time
period, he did not pick up a guitar, or write
any more music.
It
was not until his return to the UK in 2010 that
he decided that he wanted to finally record 2 of
his tracks, so he contacted a local recording
studio in Bristol (Artist
Studios) and set up the process from sending
the studio a demo recording of the two tracks,
going to the studio and putting down both vocals
/ backing vocals and then letting session
musicians put down the guitars, drums, base and
other instruments. This all took 3 months and
now (Dec 2010), he was ready to promote:
'Only the Brave Carry On' and now
this track is being promoted on national and
local radio stations including; Gloucester FM
and Stroud FM and the local Gazette newspaper to
name a few. You can visit the
credits page or the
radio station and
newspaper pages to see full details.
About The Mix: Mark came up with the idea
of mixing Charity and music at one of the local
fundraising events in November and set up
'Charity Rocks' to promote the track 'Only
the Brave Carry On'. Mark has kindly offered
to donate 100% of all revenues made by download
sales of 'Only the Brave Carry On' to
meningitis UK. Mark has also added a
second track, which is a bit punky and high
energy, but hopes that you will also download
this track.
About, Only the Brave Carry On: This
track was written and composed in the 90's and
in short, describes Mark's life-changing
feelings after loosing his Mother to a brain
haemorrhage. Mark says that 'You only realise
how much you miss them, when their gone, so make
the most of it now !!'
