About Living And Holidaying In Bang Thao Beach, Phuket In Thailand:
Bang Thao (Ao Bang Thao), also known as Bang Tao and
Laguna Beach, is a beach on north western side of Phuket and offers many
of our advertised Coffee Shops in Bang Tao Beach.
Bang Thao is a large open bay with one of Phuket's longest beaches
and many of Coffee Shops in Bang Tao Beach are located here. It
was once used for tin mining, but has since been developed into a luxury
resort. Most of it is occupied by the Laguna complex, a massive
five-hotel development with golf courses. There are, however,
accommodations and many of Coffee Shops in Bang Tao Beach are available outside Laguna at the bay's south end.
Dry season swimming is excellent, and at the bay's north end is a
smaller bay, almost completely enclosed, at the mouth of which is some
fine coral. There's plenty of places to eat, many Coffee Shops in
Bang Tao Beach to
chill and relax, tour companies, and other tourist
facilities are available at Laguna.
Bang Tao Beach is just a few minutes away from the town
of Cherng Talay where you will find that the local villagers still make
their living by farming, fishing and rubber tapping.
You won't find vendors on the beach renting sun beds as
all the sun beds on the Bang Tao beach are provided by the hotels and
they are exclusively for their guests to use. Although you may still see
the odd beach vendors that will try to sell their goods.
Coffee Shops In Bang Tao Beach And Nightlife: Tinlay Place, at the Laguna entrance at Cherng Talay, has a cluster of
Coffee Shops in Bang Tao Beach, and restaurants that have a faithful long-term expatriate
following. From early evening on you'll find people heading towards Toto
and The Supper Club to catch up on the latest news.
The Supper Club with its extensive menu also has a good wine list and
good music, or try Tatonka with its interesting and award-winning
'Globetrotter cuisine'. Most Coffee Shops stay open until late. Venues here
include Pepper’s, the Supper Club, Tatonka, Kargo, Baan Sanuk and BB’s
Pub.
Coffee Shops In Bang Tao Beach: As with most things on Bang Tao Beach the hotels provide most of the
options for Coffee Shops in Bang Tao Beach, and dining is no different however there are
many alternatives.
Some local and expat Coffee Shops have been set up on the beach to the north of The
Sheraton and to the south of Laguna Beach Resort. Notable is Lotus
Restaurant, which has excellent Thai food and Seafood at reasonable
prices, located to the north of The Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket within
walking distance of all the Laguna Resorts.
Away from Laguna in the south end of the beach there are a few small
beach restaurants and Coffee Shops in Bang Tao Beach. There's also a stand alone restaurant at the north
that's open during the day, this restaurant has some sun beds for use by
it's customers.
Beach Shopping And Shopping at Bang Tao Beach, Phuket: The
evening market on the main road in the middle of Bang Tao is definitely
a place where you can try the local foods and pick up some bargains. The
market heading back towards Surin Beach has fresh food as well as cooked
food. You will also find another section with clothing and shoes and a
few other Coffee Shops in Bang Tao Beach.
Take a walk along the beach and you will find a few
shops, well not shops but shacks that sell beach wear such as dresses,
sarongs and sunglasses. You will also find beach vendors, but not as
many as in Patong, that sell Billabong shorts and shirts. You can buy
billabong shorts etc off one of the beach vendors, they are really good
quality and I probably paid a little more than what you would in Patong.
Along the road outside the entrance to the Laguna Resort Complex , you
will find a range of shops where you will find some of most beautiful
household items and furniture another is the Asian Art and furniture
store that has a collection of Asian Art, such as handmade wooden Budda
images and elephant statues. You will also find an art gallery and a
mini mart that is a lot cheaper than the mini mart within the Laguna
Complex. If you go into Bang Tao along the Main Road you will find a 7
Eleven that is cheaper again and a few more Coffee Shops in Bang Tao
Beach.
Bang Tao Beach Activities: From November to April
this long beach is great for swimming, paragliding, kite surfing or kite
boarding, banana boat rides, water skiing and jet skis. You will find
the operators wandering along the beach. You will also be able to enjoy
a relaxing beach massage directly on the beach. We enjoyed having a Thai
massage and foot massage or a manicure, only metres away from the waters
edge, daily for two weeks. Something you can't afford to do at home.
An hour body massage will cost around 300 baht where you can enjoy your
massage on the beach or even sitting in one of the local Coffee Shops in
Bang Tao Beach. We found the massage hut that is north of Preeda's kitchen to be
of great value and the ladies are friendly. Guests of the resorts are
also able to enjoy windsurfing and Hobi cats. Surfing is pretty good at
the northern end of the beach.
Here you can go horse back riding along the beautiful Bang Tao beach or
take an elephant ride, for these activities you will have to go to the
Phuket Laguna Riding Club which is located near the entrance to the
Laguna Complex.
Horse riding, which is a perfect beach activity. Offered
by Bang Tao Riding Club, located near to the entrance to Laguna, most
days you'll see people riding up and down the beach later on in the
afternoons once it's a little cooler.
Beach Vendors: You will see a few beach vendors on Bang Tao Beach however not that
many. The ones you see may look a little lost as they look for potential
customers.
If you don't want to buy anything simply shake your head and smile. Just
remember that you're not obliged to purchase anything if you do stop a
vendor but if you want to buy an article never agree with the starting
price: use your bargaining skills and remember that a smile greases many
transactions in Thailand.
Bang Tao Beach Water Sports: In the high season (Nov - April) paragliding, waterskiing and banana
boat are available, the guys who run these operations walk the beach
looking for customers.
Jet skiing is also available and again the operators can be found easily.
Some of the hotels have windsurfers and hobie cats but they're only for
use by their guests.
Surfing in Bang Tao: The middle of the beach is protected from the
swells and some smaller waves are eminently ride able. Further north
along the beach the waves get bigger as it is exposed to the wind.
Shifting sandbanks make the going unpredictable, though, but sometimes
it is near perfect here. Southerly winds with waves up to three metres.
How to get to Bang Tao Beach: Bang Tao Beach is
about a 40 minute drive north from Patong, and a taxi will cost around
500 baht or 900 baht return trip, try not to use the taxis that are
located through the resort complex as they are expensive. Catch the
resort shuttle to the entrance of the complex and then get a taxi from
outside the complex, it is cheaper. You can access the beach North or
South of the Laguna Complex or enter the complex and have a look at this
amazing resort.
